EASTER 6 - DIVINE SERVICE, SETTING ONE, P. 151 REVISED
INVOCATION, CONFESSION AND ABSOLUTION
P In the name of the Father and of the T Son and of the Holy
Spirit. C Amen.
P If we say we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, & the truth is
not in us.
C But if we confess our sins, God, who is faithful and just, will
forgive
our sins and cleanse us from all unrighteousness.
P Let us then confess our sins to God our Father.
C Most merciful God, we confess that we are by nature sinful
and unclean. We have sinned against You in thought, word, and
deed, by what we have done and by what we have left undone.
We have not loved You with our whole heart; we have not loved
our neighbors as ourselves. We justly deserve Your present and
eternal punishment. For the sake of Your Son, Jesus Christ, have
mercy on us. Forgive us, renew us, and lead us, so that we may
delight in Your will and walk in Your ways
to the glory of Your holy name. Amen.
P Almighty God in His mercy has given His Son to die for you and
for His sake forgives you all your sins. As a called and ordained
servant of Christ, and by His authority, I therefore forgive you all
your sins in the name of the
Father and of the T Son and of the Holy Spirit. C Amen.

INTROIT Ps. 119:89–93; antiphon: Ps. 119:105
Your word is a lamp to my feet* and a light to my path.
Forever, O Lord, your word* is firmly fixed in the heavens.
Your faithfulness endures to all generations;* you have
established the earth, and it stands fast.
By your appointment they stand this day,* for all things are
your servants.
If your law had not been my delight,* I would have perished
in my affliction.
I will never forget your precepts,* for by them you have
given me life. Glory be to the Father and to the Son and to

3

the Holy Spirit; as it was in the beginning, is now and will
be forever. Amen.
Your word is a lamp to my feet* and a light to my path.
Gloria in Excelsis

Salutation and Collect of the Day
P The Lord be with you. C And also with you. P We

4

pray...
O God, the giver of all that is good, by Your holy inspiration
grant that we may think those things that are right and by
Your merciful guiding accomplish them; through Jesus
Christ, Your Son, our Lord, who lives and reigns with You and
the Holy Spirit, one God, now and forever. AMEN

1
st reading is the Epistle 1 Peter 3:15–22
15... In your hearts regard Christ the Lord as holy, always
being prepared to make a defense to anyone who asks you
for a reason for the living hope that is in you; 16yet do it with
gentleness and respect, having a good conscience, so that,
when you are slandered, those who revile your good
behavior in Christ may be put to shame. 17For it is better to
suffer for doing good, if that should be God’s will, than for
doing evil. 18For Christ also suffered once for sins, the
righteous for the unrighteous, that he might bring us to God,
being put to death in the flesh but made alive in the spirit,
19in which he went and proclaimed to the spirits in prison,
20because they formerly did not obey, when God’s patience
waited in the days of Noah, while the ark was being prepared,
in which a few, that is, eight persons, were brought safely
through water. 21Baptism, which corresponds to this, now
saves you, not as a removal of dirt from the body but as an
appeal to God for a good conscience, through the
resurrection of Jesus Christ, 22who has gone into heaven and

5

is at the right hand of God, with angels, authorities, and
powers having been subjected to him. This is the Word of the
Lord. C Thanks be to God.

Holy Gospel John 14:15–21
P The Holy Gospel according to St. John, the fourteenth
chapter.
C Glory to You, O Lord.
15[Jesus said:] “If you love me, you will keep my
commandments.
16And I will ask the Father, and he will give you another
Helper, to be with you forever, 17even the Spirit of truth,
whom the world cannot receive, because it neither sees him
nor knows him. You know him, for he dwells with you and will
be in you. 18“I will not leave you as orphans; I will come to
you. 19Yet a little while and the world will see me no more,
but you will see me. Because I live, you also will live. 20In that
day you will know that I am in my Father, and you in me, and
I in you. 21Whoever has my commandments and keeps them,
he it is who loves me. And he who loves me will be loved by

6

my Father, and I will love him and manifest myself to him.”
This is the Gospel of the Lord. C Praise to You, O Christ.

SERMON – A Living Hope...

Apostles' Creed
C I believe in God, the Father Almighty, maker of heaven and
earth. And in Jesus Christ, His only Son, our Lord, who was
conceived by the Holy Spirit, born of the virgin Mary, suffered
under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, died and was buried. He
descended into hell. The third day He rose again from the
dead. He ascended into heaven and sits at the right hand of
God the Father Almighty. From thence He will come to judge
the living and the dead. I believe in the Holy Spirit, the holy
Christian Church, the communion of saints, the forgiveness of
sins, the
resurrection of the body, and the life T everlasting. Amen.
Prayer of the Church –
We pray for the whole people of God in Christ Jesus and for
all people according to their needs. Your response to: We
pray to the Lord, is... Lord have mercy...
For Emmanuel Lutheran here in Adell, for the work of the
Kingdom in our community, and for the resources to
accomplish all that God desires, that His name may be
glorified among us and His purpose fulfilled in our words and
works, we pray to the Lord: Lord, have mercy.

7

For the lonely who suffer the burdens of life without
friendship or family, for those depressed or weary of
pandemic measures, and for the fellowship of the Church,
that we may bear one another’s burdens and live in
community with Christ as our head, we pray to the Lord:
Lord, have mercy.
For the sick and those who suffer, for the shut-in and
homebound members of Emmanuel, the hospitalized, and
those in nursing home care... especially Irene, Ruth, William,
Roy and Jane and those who we name in our hearts before
you... that God would grant healing to their bodies, peace for
their minds, and consolation in their grief and sorrows. We
also pray for revival of those who are withering in the faith or
have fallen away; for receptive hearts for worship and study
on the Lord’s Day. We pray to the Lord: Lord, have mercy.
For the nation, for those who lead our nation, for the end of
the pandemic, for peace among nations, and for an end to
terror and violence, that we may work for the common good
so that justice may prevail, life be protected and truth
abound, we pray to the Lord: Lord, have mercy.
O Lord, our God, Hear us on behalf of Jesus Christ, our great
High Priest, who even now stands before You on our behalf,
pleading our cause with His own blood, until that day when
we are delivered from the changes and chances of this mortal
life and stand before You in heaven; thru Jesus Christ, our
Lord. Amen.

8

Lord's Prayer
C Our Father who art in heaven, hallowed be Thy name, Thy
kingdom come, Thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven;
give us this day our daily bread; and forgive us our trespasses
as we forgive those who trespass against us; and lead us not
into temptation, but deliver us from evil. For Thine is the
kingdom and the power and the glory forever and ever. Amen.

Benediction
P The Lord bless you and keep you. The Lord make His face shine
on you and be gracious to you. The Lord look upon you with favor
and T give you
peace. Amen.
