CONFESSION AND ABSOLUTION

Out of the depths have I cried to You, O Lord: 

Lord, hear my voice. Let Your ears be attentive to my prayer. 

Lord, if You would mark down our iniquities:

O Lord, who shall stand without guilt before You? 

But there is forgiveness with You:

With You there is full redemption. 

Lord, hear our prayer of confession: 

God our Father in heaven, I confess to You that I have often and seriously sinned against You in many ways. It is my fault and my fault alone. I admit to You not only outward acts of evil, but hidden thoughts and desires as well. I am sorry for my sins, and I do repent of them. Humbly I ask You to look kindly upon me, to forgive my sins for the sake of Your Son Jesus, and to inspire me with new power and zeal to do Your will.  Amen

 

Almighty God in His mercy has given His Son to die for you and for His sake forgives you all your sins. As a called and ordained servant of Christ, and by His authority, I therefore forgive you all your sins in the name of the Father and of the T Son and of the Holy Spirit.   Amen.

THE SERVICE OF TENEBRAE

The Service of Tenebrae (Shadows) is rooted in an ancient liturgical rite that has its origin in the 8th century. This service moves from light to darkness. This symbolizes the fading life and light of Jesus as He makes His way to the cross. This also symbolizes Jesus’ slow decent into death and darkness for

our sins.
